I regret that I haven't had the time to update Soul2Soul's pages as regularly in the past year or so since being self-employed full-time. I've also fallen behind on answering emails (I just spent half a day deleting 8000+ mostly spam emails) and don't even ask me about a social life! I apologize to anyone who's email has gone unanswered, so much gets trapped in the spam filters that I still have to manually scan every few months. Ah, the joys of modern living.
My small home is in total chaos, too crowded and cluttered with inventory and bursting at the seams. I've not been able to have clients over in the past 6 months because I simply didn't have anyplace to put them...and I apologize for that. I had been house hunting most of this year, looking for a larger space and refuge from the dog hating neighbor to my right and the new McMansion with screaming kids and their own bouncy castle and pool to the left. I needed serenity.
I love my house, a place I've lived in for 16 years now, a lovely 50s brick ranch with coved ceilings, huge picture windows facing the enormous maple tree in my shaded backyard, and a horrible kitchen that has not seen much change since 1952. I remember the first thing I wanted to do when I moved here in 1991 was to remodel it, it never happened. So logic, and the fact that I'm in one of Denver's most desirable neighborhoods had me looking for a new homestead. But then a strange thing happened.
Around the time I moved in here, 16 years ago, I transplanted some purple phlox plants from my parents yard to a flower bed in my yard. I'd loved these fragrant late summer beauties since I was a kid. I'll always remember the expansive side garden of purple phlox backed by shasta daisies in my parents backyard, constantly buzzing with bees and butterflies.
I called them my Dad's phlox, because my Mom wanted them gone. She was of a mind that gardens had to be controlled and conquered... everything by her decree, some would call that a "Zen" garden, but I perceived it to be more like ego dictating to nature.
My Dad loved anything that grew on it's own, the Rowan tree and quince bushes that sprung up from nowhere, the wild columbines that took root by the shed, the wild flowers he had sown one year only to have my mother make him pull them all out as she perceived them as weeds. The phlox, which grew wild since before they bought that house in 1964 were one of the few constants in my youth, and a memory that always brought smiles, a pleasure that my Dad and I shared.
After seeing the stems poke out of the earth but not blossom for a dozen years at my house, I finally dug up the few survivors and replanted them on the other side of the yard, but after two years, I still didn't have any flowers.
So, with all the stress of this summer, the frantic need to find a new place while trying to make order out of this chaos...one morning I looked out and saw the unmistakable purple blossoms bursting from the same scraggly green stems that had poked their way up through the earth every year but never flowered. I was intoxicated by the sweet fragrance that took me back to a happy time. I then realized I couldn't move now, I felt my Dad telling me to stay strong and endure, all these problems I have can be settled with a few simple changes.
So, for now I'm staying, restructuring, remodeling, making simple changes that hopefully will blossom into a better environment and more serenity where I am right now.
I will also be manifesting more time and more money to live my purpose, I know how easy it can be to be lost in the everyday chaos...I just have to keep remembering and reworking The Secret. ;) Life is good.
